Built in the mid-19 th century, by the 1970s the estate was at the heart of a gilded social scene that included Hollywood stars, European royalty and the most beautiful and bohemian faces of the era. The house gained global recognition in 1978 when it was captured on film by cult society photographer Slim Aarons.
